Voice & Video Calling
How Gadget Trade’s in-app calling connects buyers and sellers without leaving the marketplace.
Calls stay inside Gadget Trade
Gadget Trade supports in-app voice and video calling between marketplace users. A caller does not need to open WhatsApp, the phone dialer or another messaging application. Calls are started from an eligible seller conversation or product page and use the Gadget Trade calling experience.
Calling a seller about a product
- 1Open the product page or the conversation with the seller.
- 2Choose Call for an in-app voice call or Video for an in-app video call.
- 3Allow microphone or camera access when the browser or installed app asks for permission.
- 4The seller receives an incoming-call screen with the caller identity and, when the call came from a product page, the product being discussed.
- 5The seller can accept or decline the call.
- 6End the call when the product discussion or live demonstration is complete.
Voice-call controls
During a voice call, users can mute or unmute the microphone, control speaker audio and end the call. The call screen shows the other participant, connection state and any relevant product context.
Video-call controls
During a video call, users can see the other participant’s live camera stream and their own camera preview. The call provides microphone, speaker, camera and end-call controls. Video calling is intended for useful product conversations such as asking a seller to demonstrate a gadget, show its physical condition or answer a live question before a buyer decides what to do next.
Product demonstrations
A buyer can request a live call with a seller to inspect a gadget remotely. A seller may use the camera to show the device, screen, ports, accessories, physical condition or another relevant detail. A live demonstration is additional evidence for the conversation; buyers should still review the listing, transaction terms and applicable marketplace protections.
Permissions and network requirements
Calling requires a secure connection and permission to use the microphone and, for video, camera. Calls use real-time internet communication. If a network blocks a direct peer connection, the production deployment should provide a configured TURN relay so the call can still connect.
How the in-app connection works
Gadget Trade uses browser real-time communication (WebRTC) for live audio and video. A secure real-time coordination service handles the call session and connection setup while the media stream remains inside Gadget Trade. The media stream itself is not a WhatsApp or ordinary phone call, and the call interface remains inside Gadget Trade. On networks where a direct peer connection is unavailable, the service can use a secure relay to complete the connection.
Call permissions and troubleshooting
- 1Use Gadget Trade over HTTPS.
- 2Allow microphone access for voice calls.
- 3Allow microphone and camera access for video calls.
- 4If the call stays on Ringing, check that the other user is online and has a current Gadget Trade session.
- 5If video cannot start, check the browser or device camera permission and close another application that may be using the camera.
- 6If calls repeatedly fail on a restrictive mobile network, confirm that the production TURN service is configured.
Product call requests
A buyer can start a call directly from a product page when the seller is eligible for in-app calling. The call carries the product title as context so both sides know which gadget is being discussed. This is useful for live demonstrations, condition checks, questions about accessories and clarifying details before a transaction.
Incoming-call notifications
When push notifications are enabled on the recipient’s device, Gadget Trade can send an incoming-call push notification while the recipient is outside the active calling screen. On browsers that support web notification action buttons, the notification can provide Accept and Decline actions. Selecting Accept opens Gadget Trade and completes the normal in-app answer flow; browsers without notification action support fall back to the incoming-call screen. The device also uses its normal notification alert sound for the push notification, while the active in-app call screen uses Gadget Trade’s dedicated call-ringing sound.
Privacy and safety
Do not use a call to request passwords, one-time codes, card PINs or payment credentials. Keep important transaction terms in the Gadget Trade conversation or order record. If a call reveals a problem with a listing, use the marketplace reporting or support process as appropriate.
